On Saturday morning we went along Route66 into the old part of Gallup and looked at some of the American Indian murals painted on buildings. After a short stroll it was back onto the Interstate Highway heading towards Albuquerque. At the start of the day we had driven over 2700 miles since picking up the car.
At Albuquerque we stopped at a new spot for lunch - Cracker Barrel which is like an old country restaurant (with a shop attached) and the food was great! Saturday lunch must be something families go out for here because the place was packed - you could even wait on the rocking chairs outside until your name was called :-)
Our drive has been quite leisurely today and we arrived in Santa Fe in good time. We stopped at an outlet mall on the outskirts of town and I managed to do some retail therapy. We are staying at the Eldorado Hotel which is right near the historical plaza - the hotel is lovely - puts the ones we have been staying in into perspective, but there certainly is a difference in price!
After settling in we walked to the plaza - it is a busy weekend - the Indian Markets are on.
