Yesterday morning we headed out for a walk along the beach again but went a bit further as I wanted to see the Bali Memorial. It's such a busy area along Poppies Lane that you can imagine the nightlife and the numbers of people that are in the various bars. It's no wonder so many were killed and injured.
After walking back to our hotel, the Grand Kumala, we checked out and went to another local restaurant for lunch. After lunch we had a driver take us to Ubud. The drive took a bit over an hour and we checked into a small hotel called Ubud Terraces. It is on Monkey Forest Rd and after settling in we walked up the road to the new market area at the top of this road. There are lots of shops selling local art, wood carvings, lots of restaurants and many massage and spa places. After a bit of explore we went back to the hotel before heading out again for dinner.
We ate at a place called Batan Waru and I had a lovely, tender steak. I had been hanging out for a steak for a while but was wary of ending up with some steak substitute??? (Perhaps dog) that was tough. It was BBQ night and my steak was fabulous. Cec and I shared some Lime Pie to finish off a good dinner.
This morning we went for a walk to the top of the town, up near the new market and then continued on to the rice paddies. We walked for perhaps 5 or 6 km up and around with water for the rice fields cascading beside us. At times we walked along the edge of the rice fields and at times there was a concrete path to walk on.
On our way back to Ubud we stopped at an organic cafe and had a rest and a drink before continuing down the hill. It was set in the rice fields and had lovely views from where we sat on the deck. In Ubud we had lunch at a cafe called The Three Monkeys then had some time at the pool before going to have a lovely massage. For dinner tonight we are going to a place called Cinta which has a good bar and a hotel where you can stay.
