After a lovely dinner at a restaurant called Sails, which is owned by a couple from NZ, we spent our second day in Amed in a hired car with a driver and went to the nearby beaches to have a look. The road was quite small and there were many spots we could see along the coast. All of the beach areas had fishing boats along them and many areas of the road had tubs of fish out the front. A van comes along and collects these and takes them to market.
In the evening we walked along the dark stretch of road from our hotel to some local restaurants and chose one of these for dinner.
On Thursday morning we were picked up and taken to another local beach where we caught a fast boat over to the Gilli Islands. These are three islands near the coast of Lombok. Most people go to the first island called Trawangen. The second is called Meno and we decided we would go to the third island called Air. There is no car transport on any of these islands, you just get in a horse and cart and pay the driver. We are staying at a place called 7 Seas where we have a bungalow and a large outdoor bathroom.
The beach here is quite small but there is an area for snorkelling right in front of where we sit in our beach cabana.
