We had a relaxing day on our second day on Gilli Air. After breakfast we took up a spot on a gazebo at our resort and spent the day swimming and snorkelling. You don't have to go out far to be amongst coral with small fish and if you go out a bit further the bottom drops away. This is where you can see turtles. Cec saw two but neither John or I managed to see anything other than fish. At dusk John and Cec set off for a walk around the island and were back in an hour after seeing bungalows and places to eat dotted around the island. I only walked a bit of the way and came back along the beach further around the west side of the island. For dinner we ate at one of the popular spots, the Chill Out Bar, and had a nice meal.
Today we hired a glass bottom boat for the day to take us snorkelling and to take us to the other islands. We set off just before 10am and headed towards Gilli Trawangan. We stopped after about half an hour and the driver jumped into the water with us to take us on some guided snorkelling. The reef here was more colourful and there were lots of lovely small fish. We headed to the drop off area and the guide showed us a turtle which was feeding and began to swim away after a short while. We moved from there to an area where there is a wreck and there were many larger fish here. It was great to see all this.
We stopped at Gilli T after getting back into the boat for a short while. We walked along the Main Street looking at the accommodation and the restaurants. It certainly is more developed than Gilli Air and you can imagine why it gets its name of a party island, there are many more people to liven things up at night.
After walking around we got back onto the boat and headed to Gilli Meno for lunch. We stopped on the quiet side of the island and had lunch at a small Warung. After lunch we walked for about 10 minutes to an inland lake - not very attractive. On our walk we came across a bankrupt hotel, such a shame as it appeared to be in a good spot and had lots of bungalows as well as a pool. Further along there was also a private villa with their own beach. It certainly would be a nice spot to holiday with Gilli T in sight but peace and quiet all around you.
We were all tired so decided to head back to Gilli Air and call it a day. We'll find another good place to eat tonight then head back to Bali tomorrow.
