Yesterday morning we left Ubud by car and began the 2 hour drive to Munduk which is a small village up in the Balinese hills. You could see 3 mountain peaks as we drove along and our driver stopped for us to see the mountains and rice terraces. Unfortunately the mountains were covered in mist so we couldn't get a good view of them but it was lovely to see the terraces growing rice and vegetables. We drove through Bedugul village and stopped at a lake which has a large temple on its shores. The temple was lovely to look at and it was surrounded by manicured gardens.
We arrived in Munduk in the early afternoon and checked into Aditya Homestay which is a small hotel of 9 rooms run by a family. The rooms are lovely and modern with a stunning outlook over the hills - hopefully it will be clear tomorrow. After checking in we went for a walk down the main village road but there really is not much here.
This morning we set out on a walk to two local waterfalls after the Homestay dropped us at the top of Munduk. The walk was quite steep in places but much of the path was paved in some way or other. The first waterfall we came to was tall and had a gravel area in front of it. The spray coming off the waterfall was amazing. We probably had a 45 minute walk from there to the 2nd waterfall which was equally spectacular with lots of spray and a small river coming from it across rocks. You could swim at the base of this waterfall if you wanted to but it wasn't as warm up here as other places we've been. I still managed to be drenched in perspiration as we walked along the path that went up and down on the way back to Munduk. Some sections were very narrow.
We're back at the Homestay now and as I write this the mist is rolling in across the mountains and there is virtually no visibility. You can see the mist drifting in front of your face but still it's not cold, maybe just cool enough to put a t-shirt and longer pants on in the evening.
