A short drive into Normanton where we find a life size sculpture of Krys, the largest ever recorded saltwater crocodile of over 8 metres in length and 2 tonne in weight. Krys was shot in the 1950's by a croc hunter's wife. We head on to Karumba where we had a fish from the jetty and caught lots of catfish, with Mum catching the largest (over 40 cm long). It was good to see the ocean again!

A stop in Mt Isa for fuel and groceries and then on to Cloncurry for lunch before heading north past the Burke and Wills roadhouse to our best bush campsite for the trip thanks to Mum's great spotting of a boundary track running off the highway. No neighbours, no wandering cows and no roadnoise.

As we head along the Barkly Highway we stop for a break at the Barkly Homestead roadhouse which got our vote for the best roadhouse we've seen on our trip - great range of food, drinks, souvenirs, etc and everything clean and well maintained. Onwards past Avon Downs police station and then across the border into Queensland. At last we've visited all 8 States and Territories! We find a campsite about 80 kilometres west of Mt Isa for the night.
