Oddly it's unclear how Injune got its name but we are definitely in October so sadly we haven't scored an extra 4 months of travel by dropping in. The town had many interesting plaques along the main street and a good information centre, where we pick up some fact sheets for Carnarvon National Park, our destination at the end of the day. We also found a statue of Isabelle Stephenson.

Today we made it to Roma where we stay at the gun club on the outskirts of town. Roma is famous for early oil and gas discoveries in Australia, as well as its Avenue of Honour featuring bottle trees. Roma also has the largest cattle saleyards in Australia.

We leave Longreach and travel through the parched countryside back to Barcaldine and then onto Blackall for lunch where it's all about Jackie Howe, great shearer from the 1890's whose world records still stand. Sadly the shops were closed for the public holiday and Fraser couldn't expand his collection of Jackie Howe singlets. Through Tambo and onto Augathella for a free camp near town.

Today we visited the Stockmans Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre for most of the day. In the morning Lachie Cossar (a cowboy from Yackandandah) entertained us with his show featuring stockhorses, working dogs and Jigsaw the one tonne bull. His show was funny, informative and gave us a good insight into life as a stockman. The Hall of Fame had many exhibits to view and once done we returned to the QANTAS Founders Museum for another visit. Fittingly the Cow...

A busy morning in the main street of Longreach where we have a snack before visiting the QANTAS Founders Museum. We enjoyed a jet tour of a Boeing 747, Boeing 707 and a restored DC3. The museum had lots of displays including many about the QANTAS co-founder Paul McGuinnus who went to school in Ballarat. Mid afternoon we returned to the caravan park for a swim while Dad watched the AFL Grand Final in the camp kitchen.
