A rest day in Porto and I want to move into our apartment because it is so fab and right in the centre of town opposite San Bento station. After having slept in a few damp cold beds it's lovely to be in a six foot bed with wonderful bedlinen. We met up with Julie and Mike today who are on their way to Madrid and sat down on a train for most of the day. This was for the fantastic train journey down the river Duoro where all the major port houses have their vineyards. We were almost in Spain at the end of the journey, the sun shone and it was spectacular. However we watched people getting off at stations along the way which looked pretty with port tasting available and foolishly we went to the end of the line where there was a cement factory and a hydro electric dam. But we had a jolly picnic in the station car park and luckily I was able to explain to Julie, MIke and Roger about all the electricity infrastructure around and the pylons that are needed to support the dam. I think they were interested. The river Duoro is running very high due to the amount of rain so in the picture it looks quite brown . My dear friend Jane joined us this evening and she's going to be doing a few days on the Camino with us. My first taste of white port tonight along with more red wine. The city is really alive tonight with all the students in the black gowns, a political demo and the start of the good weather. However the six foot bed calls and a good night's sleep.

Mary Glad the weather has improved and that it will become more scenic. We are venturing on a short stroll tomorrow to include a fabulous bluebell wood. We will toast you in good English beer. Xx
