The weather has changed and it was warm and sunny all day. My boots are still a muddy disgrace because we are still walking on paths that are very wet, but it made a difference to be wearing shorts with my milk bottle white legs. Fake tan is too much to carry. And the photo is me with the local speciality ...one month old suckling pig. It's Revolution Day here today and it's a public holiday so the restaurants are busy. The pig was a bit of a disappointment and nowhere near as good as a proper pig roast. It was served with a sauce of unbelievable horror. It was garlic and salt mixed with pig juices. Even Riger could tell it was bad.. The wine helped a lot but the locals eat the pig with cold sparkling red wine. Strange. In fact the food has not generally been memorable., apart from a sardine crumble that we ate in Lisbon. It's like 1960s Britain with tepid soups and over cooked vegetables. Even where we've tried their more modern restaurants they still seem to miss out on getting flavour combinations right. But the wine generally has been great and they seem to have lots of local producers rather than big names, so it's all very individual. And have I already mentioned Ginji? It's a cherry liqueur that cures for all ills. We are staying in an albergue tonight with very simple but comfortable accommodation . We've managed to avoid dormitories so far and we have got a few nice hotels booked later. We're in small towns for the next 4 days and doing between 10 and 15 miles a day so much easier. Still hopeless on understanding Portuguese but we will be in Spain in a couple of weeks now.
