So we have made it to Coinbra and the pic is of the beautiful cloisters of the old cathedral here. There is a " new" cathedral here too which dates from 15th century so. It's a very historical city..lots to see tomorrow which is another rest day.oour walking today was lovely and for once we started seeing other Portugeusse people out walking too. It's. A big holiday weekend here as Monday is the day they celebrate throwing over their dictator Salazar . I think he was a bit like Franco but less loved but I will get a bit more grip on Portuguese history while we are here. Coimbra is also a big university town and it's graduation time so lots of young people out too. We stopped today to see their finest Roman ruins at Coinimbriga ...much dispute between us about what Roman ruins really mean. In the end we agreed that leaving something behind is a marvellous axhievement, even though it might only look like a pile of stones. Nice evening with Jerry, a new Camino friend and we went to a good modern place to eat, but still it's a lost cuisine with peasant traditions but few ideas about how to move on. At least there are few fast food outlets here, but they will take over unless fresh ideas come long.. The wine however is generally great which is why I hope you will forgive any spelling or grammatical mistakes tonight.
