So here we are in Etruria and just three days walking left to go to Rome. I have to laugh remembering living briefly in Stoke on Trent in Etruria which was such a sh*thole but I thought the name was romantic. Now I have seen what it is really like in Italy with all its history - I just can't think why Stoke had the cheek to even use the name. Fantastic days walking, mainly through orchards and forest. We've gone through at least 10 miles of hazel orchards and they make some beautiful desserts with about 1000 hazelnuts welded together with toffee and then some chocolate. We're staying with a local family who let out 2 rooms and it feels so much nicer than a hotel. We ate with lots of other walkers tonight who all expect to get to Rome soon. Had some pasta tonight that was so al dente I could barely chew it. Tried the Cace e Pepi sauce which is basically pepper cheese and salt. V trendy I'm told but give me tomato anytime. Really hoping Roger hasn't caught my cold. He sneezed twice today. If it's man flu we 'll be home in air ambulance tomorrow.
