So here we are loading up with carbs before the next stretch of the walk. Dear friends, not old as they've asked me to mention, are with for the next five day walking to Siena. They are Jane,Alice Rosie and Phil and what goes on tour ..... it's been a lovely rest day in Lucca, going to the laundrette and then 3 cathedrals or basilicas, not sure what the difference is. As pilgrims we get free admission when we show our credentiales. I enjoy the churches as historic buildings but much of the art now leaves me cold. I suspect that congregations are very low now and ,as in Spain, religion is dying. There quite a lot of postcards of the Pope and I've thought of a friend who might appreciate one for their downstairs loo collection. Just let me know. So god's blessings to you all while I think about whether I do want to visit the Vatican when we finish in Rome.
