Ian & Claire's Adventure
Emerald was also a bit of a service town but it does have a huge Van Gogh Sunflowers picture (much to Claires delight). We spent mosrt of the day getting Claire to a doctor about a rash that seemed to be getting far worse by the day. It rained.
After lunch the next day, in Emerald, we decided to take a chance fossicking out in Saphire at Pats. It was great fun, basically washing a bucket of dirt looking for gems. We expected to find nothing, only the possibility of a saphire but actually its quite common to find loads. We were astounded to find three worth cutting! On our way out of town we went to a cutter and for very little money($20 each) sent them to get cut and sent to Kevs.
Our next stop was Carnarvon Gorge so we stopped at a crappy campsite in Springsure(round the back of the BP garage) on the way with a wierdo next to us who wanted to chat, thankfully there was a storm. Ian was freaked out in the toilet that night by the two Huntsman (small tarantular) spiders. There were fantastic white Macaw parrots and the most irritatingly persistant flies in the world.
