Day 11 We made the decision to keep the car and tae it up to denali, in case it was a difficult to get around as Kenai. On the way to Portage Glacier we stopped at a calving company to look at the huge wooden(comedy) carvings and the biker convention over the road. At Portage Glacier we spent a while taking photos of the beautiful mountains thinking the glacier was a bit naff, we found out the glacier had retreated behind a mountain so we coudnt see it from the visiter centre. We drove to the next viewpoint but could still only see the tail end. A lovely place though. We drove to Anchorage where we picked up supplies for Denali at the supermarket and then set off on the long trip North. After seeing loads of petrol station they suddenly dissapeared for many miles and we noticed our petrol gauge flashing red, we were pretty worried and took the opportunity to freewheel down most of the hills. At the last gasp be rolled into the igloo, a 24hr self service petrol station ...Thank God! with a bizarre huge white igloo next to it, we drove straight to Denali with a fantastic mountain view ahead of us. We arrived late agin and decided just to pitch where we could, tagged a little note to the tent saying we´d pay the next day.
