Ian & Claire's Adventure
Day 7
Woke up to the stunning vew of the snowcapped mountains surrounding the bay. We spent the morning taking our photo opportunities during the brief moments when the clouds broke, enough to take good pictures.
On the way back we stopped for breakfast at the sourdough cafe. We stopped again so Claire could buy some beads (are you a beader? What do you bead?)
Stopped once again to do some washing at the laundromat and had a shower while we waited (1st in 4 days) and ther best damn shower we've ever had. A family sized double shower cubicle
As usual we were late leaving Homer, we blame it on the late sunset. We tried to get to the Katmai National Park Visitor Centre in Soldotna by 7pm but found it closed, thankfuly after a little tresspassing we met a lady whol recommended we camp at Dolly Varden up the gravelled Swanson River Road. The visitor centre had a couple f short hikes, very well set up starting at the carpark, they were very good but we had to run the last bit because of the mosquitos.
Dolly Varden was free and very remote, a lovely secluded spot with our own campfire and picnic table by the lake, wher we watched the sunset and ate our roasdt chicken before Ian feverishly found a rope and tied our rubbish up a tree.
