Leg 5 race 8 day 5
Was woken at 5.30 for shift at 6am.
Had managed to sleep a little but where the boat was beating so hard and the waves bashing into it I was tossed and jerked around in my bunk. Felt like being in a fast car and suddenly breaking so you push forward then jerks into reverse pushing your whole body And it just goes on and on. Not at all comfortable with that on top of trying to stay in my bunk with out falling out as we were heeled over. So needless to say woke with a back ache and still feel weak and sea sick.
Went to bunk to get changed as all my clothes were wet from last nights shifts noticed my sleeping bag that had been rolled up on the bottom of my bunk was missing then I found it underneath on top of the desile tank covered in fuel. I was so upset it made me cry! Couldn't eat any breakfast just went straight on deck. Carl could see I was upset and it made me feel better having a hug. Matt and Linda both offered their sleeping bags. Was on deck till 10, the sea started to calm down and the sun came out. Didn't get soaked this time and to make things better Kevin made a lovely pot of fresh coffee. Couldn't eat lunch which was noodles but had some bread with cheese and couple of chunks of pineapple. Made me feel better. Got into my bunk put my little sarong up to make it like a tent then chilled listened to music and dozed, the sea had calmed down so not heeled over makes you feel so much better. And the sun had come out.
We had had 3 reefs in and Yankee 3 :but took out 2 reefs and the next shift took out the third and put up Yankee 1
When I got up at 5.30pm the sea was calm amazing how much better that makes you feel. Like a new woman on shift at 6pm
Couldn't believe how calm the sea was and how warm it was just had t shirt and shorts on the shift went really quickly so nice to have the boat flat. Had a hot chocolate on deck. Towards the end of shift notice lights from another boat was hard to see what it was and came close it was a fishing boat : bit too close for comfort should have shone torch sooner. But passed ok felt wide awake for standby watch. Watched a film with Carl on I pad: had to help the other watch put the wind seeker up as no wind. The boat is more or less standing still ! Bed at 2am and it's hot the temperature has picked up
