Leg 5 - race 7 - day 13
Got up at 1pm read my book for a while had lunch and sophie helped me to wash my hair, it was so greasy! Had to do in in a bucket of salt water but very tricky as the boat was so heeled over. Up on deck for 3pm- 7pm. Put the spinnaker up and spent the rest of the shift trimming this. Found out we are now in 6th position. We have been working so hard : anything can happen but so want to get a podium !
Came off shift at 7pm cleaned the galley (kitchen ) and heads (toilet)
Into bed at 10 til 3 then back on shift 3am- 7am
Had a really hectic shift : we had been on deck for about half hour and had a riding turn in the spinnaker sheet, tried and tried to get it out but couldn't so had to drop the spinnaker took a while to get it down and made 3 tairs in the process, Got the Yankee and staysail up to keep us moving then dropped staysail and hoisted code 3 but on hoisting that the hallard was twisted so took a lot longer. Really hard work for 4 hours then when we came off watch sophie had the job of sail repair. It was a bit of an emotional shift ! All our hard work then rip a sail ! I take my hat off to those sailing round the world! I couldn't do it. Been at sea for 13 days now and that's hard enough. Miss the home comforts of a nice bed shower good food and finding it hard climbing around the boat all the time. Feel black and blue from bruises. Imagine getting up from your armchair with the back of it on the floor - you manage to climb out then you have a steep hill to walk up to get to the toilet and you have to hold on and pull yourself up or you will just bash into the side !! Mind you on a positive I think I have lost weight my tummy looks flater. Tomorrow is 1st Feb will be counting down the days till we get to Vietnam xx
