Leg 5 - race 7 - day 22
Woke at 12.30 lazed in bunk til 2. Had had a really good sleep. Needed it big time.
Had coffee and lunch - chicken wrap.
Up on deck at 3pm. Took the Yankee and staysail down and hoisted the code 2 spinnaker. It was a lovely four hours I was trimming the kite Carl on the helm. The sea was calm winds were good and the sun was behind the clouds which made it a really nice temperature. I was really enjoying it and we were making a good speed. Then half hour before we were due to finish shift we came to close to the wind, couldn't get the boat up and I fell down from the high side to the cockpit. Managed to hold onto sheet but really hurt my thumb in my fall. Luckily I was tethered on but should have been on a short tether. Came off watch took some paracetamol and ice pack on it. Had dinner then was called onto deck as the Tigers had wrapped the spinnaker round the inner forestay. Took an hour but we managed to free it. Then took it down and hoisted the Yankee and staysail. Back down below to do log wash up and clean heads etc.
Tomorrow we have a switch of shifts so mine will move to 7-11 hopefully this time will see sunrise and sunset.
The temperature has risen as due to our course change we are nearer to the equator again. So sitting writing this as I drip with perspiration!!! What I would give for an ice cold drink or even a cool beer!!!!
Went to bed at 11pm gently being rocked tonight but can hear the groaning of the boat and splash of the sea against the sides. It so depends on sea state and wind as to how the boat moves. So some times gentle rocking to other times being thrown about ! I prefer the gentle rocking.
Woke at 2.30am to go on shift 3-7 the wind had got up so they had taken down the Yankee and put a reef in. But just before I got on deck the tacked and took the reef out. The boat is now really heeled over. At 6am went down below to help with breakfast.
Miles covered 249 ; 8.5-13.6
