Leg 5: race 7: day 27
Valentine's Day today! Aim was to get a picture of me and Carl with the sunrise in the background : completed X
Woken at 6.30 cereal for breakfast, pancakes on offer too! No shortage of food !
Up on deck at 7. Took lots of photos on sunrise. Caroline went up the mast to sort hallards out. Very calm seas and low winds 5/6 knots. Hot sunny day. Helmed for a while getting more confident with this now.
Finished shift at 11 : went to the back of the boat for a shower and hair wash using sea water. Painted toe Nails .
Clipper have now informed us where the finish line is so should be in Vietnam the morning if the 17th.
Due to us now finishing in 24 hours we will not be able to catch up with the others so it looks like we will get 5th place out of 12
I had a chat with other crew members and Bob the skipper and asked if we could have daily meetings for the next race to discuss place and tactics etc.
So let's hope from Vietnam to qingdao we get a podium better still win first.
I am so looking forward to a long proper shower and a flat bed also a cold beer !!! There is a chilled atmosphere on the boat. We are all doing little jobs save doing them in port. Although it's good getting the boat at a good speed for racing it's also nice going along in low winds so the boat is not heeled over as much. A more comfortable sail as easier to get around the boat. Temperature has risen again : fans still going 24/7
Went to bunk at 1pm for rest ; laying in my bunk looking through photos makes me realise what an amazing experience this is We have had some real laughs along the way too. Didn't sleep a lot up at 17.30 then on shift at 19.00. Helmed for a while. When it got dark around 9.30pm vitality (round the world crew) fixed up to project a film on the head sail! So we sat on the bow (sea was flat) and watched the film "man from uncle"
Came off shift at 11pm was so tired fell asleep for 2 hours in the galley.
Bed at 3am
Miles covered 157 : speed 4.8-9.8
