This semester I enjoyed my classes a lot more and felt a lot more involved on campus. It was nice to finish with class photos and see all the familiar faces in the exam halls!
I took 5 classes and so had 5 exams to sit. I did miss my second due to being sick but will get special consideration and arrange to sit this once I'm back home.
My first exam was for Central Asia International Relations. I wrote 3 essays about how the US helped Central Asia to republicise, how China is helping today and their interest in the region ($$!) and also about the economic and political situation of the region.
The next exam I sat was for East Asian International Relations. I wrote about the challenges East Asia has in creating a community like the EU, the domestic challenges between South Korea and Japan, and then also about US and China interest in this region and how that is challenging for creating strong foreign policy.
I also sat my exam for Politics of Indians in Malaysia which was a really interesting subject but a lot more history focused than I had hoped! I wrote about the impact of the British in the early years, the formation of the Malaysian Indian Congress Party, and outlined how socio-economic improvements have been made over the past 30 years for Indian people in Malaysia and what else needs to be done.
My final exam was about Labour Issues in South East Asia. This was by far my favourite class as it covered things that I'm familiar with in an Australian context but seeing the similarities in the Asian experience. I wrote about the impact of foreign workers both legal and illegal, the culture of gendered workplaces and also the rise seen in female engagement in more industries.
I'll sort out my missed exam later on but for all intents and purposes my time at UM is finished!!!
