I was genuinely blown away by this little gem of a country! The cleanliness, the organised roads and feature buildings in the centre - it was all amazing!
I reached Brunei early Friday morning and got an airport shuttle to my hotel. On Friday's here everything closes from 12-2pm so I went out exploring until then. I visited a local food market which was selling heaps of fresh produce, then wandered the waters edge and saw the water village. I went through one of the shopping centres and ate lunch there. I had to try out Jollibee for myself since the Brunei girls had raved about it so much during their time in Malaysia with me! I had a chicken wrap and I've got to admit, it was great fried chicken!! I spent ages wandering around the Jubilee Park which lies to one side of the centrepiece of the city, the Mosque. I took some really great photos of the Mosque - I love how it reflects on the river water! I spent a good couple of hours out exploring ending up very tired and very sunburnt! I went back and was able to check in to my room. I got a free upgrade to a suite which was amazing! I curled up and napped on the couch - 4am start combined with afternoon slump definitely hit me hard!
I woke up and showered then Suzie picked me up for dinner around 6pm. We went and met Baz and Lee for dinner where we ate all different kinds of local Bruneian foods! Ambuyat was by far the most interesting - it looks pretty much like clag glue and is super sticky so you kind of twist a blob of it around your chopsticks then dip in sauce and gulp it down without chewing or anything. Very different texture and taste but pretty good! We also had fried fish, a spinach dish, butter prawns and cendol which was super sweet! After dinner Suzie headed home and I went with Baz and Lee to a few different places. They showed me a local night market, the shopping mall where we got milk teas, the Sultans palace and also office, and another beautiful Mosque just outside the city centre! I had such a great night driving around and catching up with the three girls! I told them I will definitely be back again to visit!
On Saturday I woke up around 11am and went for a long walk around the city centre. I had a nice lunch and sat by the water for a while. I wandered through the mall and got myself some souvenirs then headed back to my hotel for my airport shuttle at 2. My flight was a bit delayed so I got back to Malaysia about 8pm. Such a short trip but I'm so glad I made the time for it!!
