Okay so in Malaysia we are in Semester 1 but let’s just called it semester 2 since it’s my second one here and Australia is doing second sem right now haha!
I started back in classes on September 12th after the longest summer break ever! I’ve never realised how long they are since I’ve always kept working or doing summer school! This semester I’m also taking 5 classes and so far they seem a lot more interesting and challenging, being all third year classes!
1. Labour Issues in South East Asia. This one is my favourite so far despite the economics our teacher keeps babbling about! There are about 35 in this class so we have 2 tutorial times. Also the lecture is split into 2 so we have an hour Tuesday and one Thursday which is annoying. Mostly we’ve covered about general knowledge stuff so far but it’s got a lot of potential and the teacher is really great!
2. Easy Asia International Relations. Has there ever been a more exciting time to be studying about East Asia?! So much drama re North Korea at the moment and our teacher is super anti-Trump so that’s bound to keep things interesting! There’s just over 40 of us in this class so again there’s two
tutes.
3. Minorities in South East Asia (Religious, Political and Ethnic). There’s just so much that this course can cover, I’m excited to see how it goes! Our class seems really engaged and our teacher is super passionate so I think it’ll be good!!
4. Central Asia International Relations. This course is probably the one I’m most eager to learn in. I know less than nothing about Central Asia and I think it’s often forgotten so I’m keen to learn more and hope I can pick up some info about Russia and the Soviet Union along the way!
5. Politics of Indians in Malaysia. This is my smallest class (only 12 of us!) and seems the most chill so far. I think doing the Indian social history class last semester has put me in good stead for this one and I hope I can learn about politics in Malaysia a bit more broadly!
