Woke early after a good night's peaceful sleep.
Went to the little smart cafe close to where I was parked. Had a delicious runny chocolate croissant and an americano coffee all for €1.60.
As I was feeling good I decided to explore some more and headed for the hills. So glad I did.
Firstly I by passed Assisi and went on to Norcia which was a pleasant little walled city and not so touristy. They seem to specialise in truffles, lentils and cheese.
Sacha took a fancy to a stuffed boar this time.
Then I drove up and up into the mountains which are ski fields in the winter. Near the top in the cool and out of the way of the wind, we had a ham salad lunch. Sacha worked very hard digging a deep hole. Not sure what she was after as she never got it whatever it was. There were many flowers in the meadow and no one around.
On the way down the hairpin bends I was feeling tired so stopped along a track in a gorge and closed my eyes for a few minutes.
I then drove to a small town from where I plans to go up a mountain that is 2912 metres. I don't know what the highest mountain in Italy is but that will do me.
I plan to sleep in a car park again tonight.
I haven't seen any signs for any campsites at all in this region.
I have enjoyed the scenery today the most in all of Italy. Particularly the little villages cling to the hillsides.
