Leaving lovely La Sierra campsite at Ghiffa on huge Lake Maggiore there was some panic as I couldn't find my passport. I looked everywhere and had to take everything out still no sign of it. Eventually found it stuck between the seat belt and the passenger seat. Then as I went to drive off I saw Sacha running behind me. I thought she was in her kennel but she must have jumped out while I wasn't looking. Dog abuse eh.
After Lake Maggiore I drove beside the lake past grand villas and, later, even grander hotels.
Planned initially to avoid express ways but after so many mini roundabouts and becoming snarled up in traffic I set sat nav on expressways mode using the confusing tolls. A bit of a nuisance having to jump out and run round the other side every time we reached the unmanned toll booths.
When I was near my destination at Lake Iseo I took a wrong turn and had to go 3kms through a very old dark tunnel. Then of course back again where I was frightened to see a car overtaking another coming towards me.
When I reached the campsite it was full the next didn't take dogs and then I stayed in one that had only Italian families. The showers were boiling hot. Trust me, that is worse than freezing cold.
The owner seemed disappointed that I was leaving but it is terribly hot. In the very high 30s and humid.
