Had Coffee and chocolate croissant for €1.80 for breakfast and drove up and up to Cervarezza Terme. It was a beautiful drive through hills and panoramic vistas. It is such a shame that there are no picnic areas. Where there are lay-bys they are full of rubbish.
I considered a campsite there but it was too early to stop to camp. So instead a stopped in a 'spa'.
Had a dip in a strange small warm thermal pool with a couple of teenage lads in charge - sort of. Just trying to get my shoulder better as it was so painful last night. From the thermal pool we walked past a water bottling plant to a delightful kids adventure park. Sacha made me laugh by biting at the cascading water.
The scenery along the winding road was superb. That was all good but when I reached Reggio Neil 'Emelia I found
it was a boring modern city and I drove on through to Sabbioneta.
This world heritage site was built in 1556. It was a small independent state. There was the ducal palace, church and even a theatre within the red brick hexagonal shaped city walls. Also there was a gungy moat with ducks and geese. My van just squeezed in through the historical gate.
The woman at the information desk wasn't friendly and it was very hot to wander around. There was an area for camper vans to park but no shade at all so I decided to move on.
I moved on to another village 20 kms away as I could see some water on the map and it showed a picnic area- rare indeed.
The water was filthy and I never found the picnic area. However I drove on what was really a cycle path to another village. Now am parked by a cemetery- usually a quiet place!
It is 10 pm and I am dripping with sweat and fighting off Mosquitos.
