For the past couple of days we have been in Rotorua! Yesterday we went to the Skyline Luge which was a lot of fun, it was basically like getting in a toboggan and going down a track rather than a metal run, and we had great views of the lake and the town! In the evening we went to the Tamaki Maori Village to experience the culture of the Maori people (native New Zealanders). We watched some of their crafts like weaving, and learned some of their games and also learned a few Maori phrases too! For Frazer the best part of the evening was the 'Hangi' (the feast), which involved cooking the meat underground using the geothermal rocks to heat it for 3-4 hours! There was so much food, over 100 people couldn't eat it all so us backpackers were in heaven! Today we visited Redwood Forest which was cool- we've never really seen so many of these giant trees so we were pretty overwhelmed! We will definitely spend a few more nights in Rotorua on the way back down as we want to see the geothermal parks and possible get a mud bath! Tomorrow we are off to Auckland :)
