Today we decided to climb Mt Victoria which sits right in the centre of Wellington. On the way up frazer was running in all directions as he recognised some points which were almost certainly places where Lord of the Rings was filmed so that kept him happy! After a pretty steep climb and managing to track Fraze down again we reached the top and got some amazing views of the city- it was cool to see the planes coming in at the same level as you and landing on the runway at sea level. We also went to Oriental Bay which is a beach about 5 minutes walk from the city centre. Considering Wellington is the capital, having a beach as nice and clean as that one is pretty impressive! You would definitely not find one like that in London. In the afternoon I dragged Frazer around the shops to look for some flip flops much to his annoyance, but it was nice to see Wellington properly as we didn't get to last time- we were shocked at how few people there were on the streets for a capital city though! (I guess thats New Zealand for you.) All in all we really liked Wellington as a place- it has lots of things to do but you don't feel cooped up at all, there's still plenty of room to breathe!
