After leaving Gemtree we had a 400 odd km drive to get to the Devils Marbles. We had a few hours of daylight to walk around, explore and climb the gorgeous and amazing rock and boulder formations. Arrived at Gemtree caravan grounds about lunch time then the boys spent the afternoon looking around, climbing trees and playing cricket while I made a choccy cake. Day 1- we headed into town to visit the Reptile centre. It was brilliant! We saw lots of beautiful lizards and loved watching the fabulous thorny devils eat ants, too cute! We left Kings Canyon on Thursday to travel on the Mereenie Track, a bit of a "back way" to Alice Springs through the West MacDonnell Ranges, which were once as high as the Himalayas but have eroded over millions of years to a become a beautiful red-rock range full of stunning gorges. After another few hundred Km's we arrived at Kings Canyon resort. We spent the afternoon having a swim, a play at the park, chatting and having sunset drinks with another family who we have met along the way. The following day we headed off for another hike, the Kings Canyon 6km rim walk. It was quite a steep climb to begin with and then was relatively easy going.
