Another couple of hours drive north to Daly Waters, the location of the first airstrip in the NT. It was used to refuel early international flights and then a WW2 rear guard airbase during the bombing of Darwin. We stayed at the Daly Waters pub in the caravan/camping grounds. After setting up and lunch we had a swim in the pub pool then chilled out in the aircon for a couple if hours before heading over to the beer garden for happy hour and entertainment. The boys were able to amuse themselves completing a 'treasure hunt', locating a variety of items and information all around the pub. At 6:30 we were in the first of 3 sittings for the pub's famous beef and barra BBQ and salad bar. It was an awesome and delicious meal! The steak and fish were cooked to perfection and we have never eaten better damper. Jack of course polished off an enormous burger! Credit to the man and young lady behind the BBQ who pumped out at least 60 perfect steaks and barra fillets over the course of the night. All the while we were entertained by 3 different singers. The kids topped off their night with a free paddle pop for completing their treasure hunt. It was a fantastic evening! We highly recommend a nights stay at the Daly Waters pub.
