After leaving Mataranka we drove to Katherine to do some groceries and check out the information centre. Then onto Nitmiluk National park, just out of Katherine at Katherine gorge. We had a lovely shady site in a bushland setting but with a resort-style pool just at our doorstep, which is where we spent the afternoon! In fact the kids got in and out a few times then stayed in til after dark with their new found mates while we had happy hours! Next morning we got up early to go on a cruise up the river through Katherine Gorge. It was a beautiful day; warm, sunny and clear. The gorge was beautiful too, stunning rock walls and glistening water. The tour director told us the aboriginal beliefs and legends of the gorges as well as the history of some of the floods and about the local crocodiles. Almost on cue, Ben spotted a freshy on the edge of the water! Our first wild croc! Very cool, can't wait for more croc spotting, but definitely from a distance in the safety of a boat, lol! After lunch we spent a bit of time in the van doing 'schoolwork' while I did some cleaning and washing. We all got very hot and bothered so we spent the afternoon in the pool again. It's a tough life!
