Second course of set lunch !
Fish balls, tomato sauce, plain rice, plantain and salad.
The fish balls here are just fish, flour, spices and yellow / red colour.
That's how Miss Orfie (who owned our posada made them anyway).
They are all this shape too on the islands. Not quite round, more oval.
It's a bit odd how much colouring is added to food here. The supermarket shelves are full of different colours. It has zero impact on the taste. So although they look like they might be spicy they are fried fish flavour. It's great how much fish is in each one and you know they are home made.
Slightly rubbery texture and quite dry. Frying will do that I guess. The sauce is a mild tomato and maybe paprika sauce.
The plantain is as sweet and sugary as always and makes me so happy as its so obviously Caribbean. They seem to interchange the word plantain for banana here. This was more banana than plantain. I think they have extra varieties here where we have only plantain or banana they have hybrids. I will investigate.
I think adding some mashed yucca and chilli would liven up the fish balls and give it a proper kick.
