Have reached Dampier where iron ore is being loaded onto ships 24 hours a day. It is also where the movie Red Dog was filmed. The Info Centre is crammed full of books, stuffed dogs, RD clothing etc. First night here 8" of rain fell - putting a dampener on plans to head to Karijini as the access roads were closed - so waited it out here. Roads have reopened so heading off tomorrow.

Met up with S & Y at Port Smith & decided to stay for 2 nights thanks partly to Steve's desire to catch a fish & also to the existence of a 9-hole golf course attached to the cp. The fishing was totally unsuccessful so we played 9 holes of golf for light entertainment. Yvonne came close to decapitating a wallaby & Steve came even closer to decapitating Yvonne. Have been saying Cape Leveque was the destination but not so. We lost interest when we learnt that trailers/caravans were not allowed - and that the last 100km's is all SEALED! Middle Lagoon is on the western side of the Dampier Peninsula and accessed from the Cape Leveque Road. Spent 3 nights there & enjoyed the beach. Apparently a croc has been sighted recently at the creek - I couldn't find the creek let alone the saltie! Should mention that the CL Road...

Aah. Beautiful Broome. It's a great place once you get past the exorbitant pricing & Toyota dealers who can't fit you in. Steve & Yvonne went the Cable Beach route & I went the Town Beach route - haves versus the have nots! At least I have the beach no more than a minute from my camp! It's 11 days since last blog & a lot has happened. It is the time it has taken to complete the full length of the Gibb River Road including certain notable diversions. First stop was El Questro, a commercial operation as shown by their ability to extract lot's of tourist cash. Emma Gorge was incredible & made the stay memorable.
