It's 11 days since last blog & a lot has happened. It is the time it has taken to complete the full length of the Gibb River Road including certain notable diversions. First stop was El Questro, a commercial operation as shown by their ability to extract lot's of tourist cash. Emma Gorge was incredible & made the stay memorable.
We camped at Drysdale Station on Kalumburu Road, leaving camper there before continuing on to Mitchell River NP. The occasional puddle and constant red dust left the car a shade of burnt orange which will take forever to clean off. Some of the river crossings were quite exciting especially the Pentecost.
Mitchell Falls were absolutely brilliant - better than my expectations! Check the pic! Surveyors Pool was also impressive so our 2 days on the Mitchell Plateau was very rewarding.
Back to Drysdale Station to collect camper & hopefully beat rain which is apparently heading our way. Next stop was Manning Gorge near Mt Barnett. We were on a roll as Manning Gorge had a waterfall with 5 levels & a great place for a dip. Yvonne has swum at every opportunity & even when there isn't.
Onto Windjana Gorge with it's many freshwater crocs & awe inspiring gorge walls. From the campground at Windjana drove to Tunnel Creek & did the walk in the pitch black with water up to the waist at times. Incredibly brave!
And finally today, to Derby & the end of the GRR. To be honest the GRR was rather a doddle, with the only bad section being the 30 k's after leaving El Questro (at the start). It was as if the grader was leading the way!
Broome tomorrow & a rest before tackling Cape Levique.

Toby You lucky b****** Figgy , we all realised why you piss off in winter whilst we were walking around the golf course freezing our nuts off. You certainly are in Darwins own land & I must admit I had a little tear in my eye as your splendid missive brought back fond memories of my time up there. Did you get hit by the down pour that was reported to have hit the Broome area, last week(150ml)? All the best to you Evylyn & Steve, Toby.
JG Hi Al. Hope you checked if the share market was up before the people at El Questro took any money off you. Don't worry too much about your vehicle. I'm sure the boys at Brighton Toyota are used to four wheel drives coming in absolutely caked in red dirt. On second thoughts maybe not. Had a great round today with a young pro. Very enlightening. JG
