Adventures of a Global Wanderer
This weekend I had booked an all day biking trip to Ganghwa Island for Saturday. As it was an early morning departure this would mean I would have to goto Seoul and stay the night before. Having previously stayed in an overnight sauna I was going to do the same again to save costs. I discovered another unique and economical sauna which was quite enjoyable to stay for an overnight experience. I took the cheaper slow train option as the high speed trains are 44,000w each way ($40) and I had already paid $40 for the trip. Plus I would have to pay for accomdation friday and saturday nites so this weekend would cost me well over $100. I've never taken the four hour slow train before which is only 20,100w ($18) as I thought I wouldnt be able to survive such a long journey. However, it wasnt too bad with my mp3 player. Also, I didnt think to ask for a window seat. I had five different people sit beside me so I had to keep letting them pass. The first man wanted to get up at every station and stand in the aisle to check his phone messages. Later another man wanted to sing along out loud to his ipad video player so good job I had my headphones on too. After Daejeon which is about the half way point the train became standing room in the aisle so good job I had my seat. After Suwon it emptied out as were now inside the subway metro area. We were told to stay at Dragon Hill Spa which is next to Yongsan station which was one of the early morning meeting points. This is my second time at a jimjilbang having stayed at Itaewonland previously (see blog entry http://blog.travelpod.com/travel-blog-e ntries/londone7/1/1332773367/tpod.html ) It was very easy to find when you come down the big staircase at exit one and turn immediately right. The outside had some interesting chinese architecture which leads you to a green lit covered walkway to the entrance. Inside admission was 12,000w ($11) which many people are saying is 'expensive' for a jimjilbang. You then place your shoes in the shoes locker and take seperate gender elevators to your changing room floor. The mens changing room was the fifth floor, and the elevator goes directly there from reception. Once changed into my robes I explored the private mens fifth floor. There was a darkened sleeping room with mats which was empty at this time. Also there were the shower areas and different types of pools. I then went back to the first floor to work my way up thru all six floors exploring the facilities. The ground floor has a large common area which branches off to different facilities. There was a thai massage room, a stone massage area, childrens amusement rides and video games, and different types of saunas. They had different themed saunas like two egyptian pyramids. Inside one was an egyptian style decorated sauna, the other was an emerald sauna. There were three clay brick saunas at different levels of temperatures, and a stone sauna with gravel flooring. Many of the women had towels wrapped around their head like princess leia. Some interesting facilities were the pc room, golf batting cages. exercise room and health club. Many celebrities have stayed here and there is a gallery with their photos. There is also a rooftop terrace with restaurant though there isnt really much to see in terms of view. When it was time to sleep I went back to the fifth floor mens sleeping room. There are mats laid in rows and you choose your spot. The corners were taken so I chose another spot by the wall. After midnite the place was completely full and all spots taken. I tried to get some rest for my all day biking trip the next day. Annoyingly like the last time I stayed at a sauna many people set their cellphone alarms to start ringing as early as 5am. Each phone has a different ringtone so it became an annoying chorus of many ring tones. Even more annoying the person whose phone it was could not hear it ringing for sometimes a couple of minutes, or they would lie in and have a bit of a snooze letting their phone ring disturbing everyone else. Another strange incident the night before was somebody was vomiting, choking, and almost dying. Nobody else seemed to notice so I dont know if this was normal for people being out drinking. In the morning it is always amusing to see the people passed out in all kinds of places, who came late and were unable to get a mat or sleeping spot. I had to climb over people outside the mens sleeping room to get to the showers. Overall this was quite a nice jimjilbang and one of my favourites. It was very clean and well kept with a variety of things to do. There were some foreigners, many koreans of both sexes, not too many children. Its quite good if you need a cheap place to stay and only two stops from seoul station where I can catch my train to daegu. They also have a multilingual website with more details, though you should click on the korean version to see the facilities properly http://www.dragonhillspa.com/ I would recommend keeping a water bottle in your locker as you can get dehydrated in these places See earlier entry for Itaewonland overnight sauna http://blog.travelpod.com/travel-blog-e ntries/londone7/1/1332773367/tpod.html and Happy Day Sauna http://blog.travelpod.com/travel-blog-e ntries/londone7/1/1336939818/tpod.html

Wendy Hi Asif, I think this makes the police cells look good. I admire your endurance!
