Up at 5am then on a bus to the airport. We arrived and checked in then said goodbye to Spain. We arrived in Milan at 10am, grabbed our hire car and headed southwest into France. We tried to avoid the tolls but the gps let us down a little so we had to fork out for a few. As we were avoiding the tolls we were sent to the back roads and had a lovely drive through the Italian countryside. We then started to hit the mountain and realized we were about to cross the alps. The scenery was once again amazing as we started the climb through snow covered villages along winding roads. It took about an hour until we arrived at a single lane tunnel. As we popped out the other side we had arrived in France. The roads were a lot of fun to drive and the views were just unbelievable. It was fun coming to a crest and seeing the hairpins stretch out below. Well it was for a while anyways. After 4 hours it was more than enough. We arrived in Nice about 6pm. It had taken that long to travel 380 k's. As we arrived the city was nothing like we had expected. We found our hotel, which was lovely, then headed out for a little explore. We have stretched ourselves a little thin on this leg. We head off again tomorrow for a 450 km drive to Carcassone so had to explore a bit of Nice tonight, but obviously both knackered after the last two days. As we headed down to the waterfront and through the old quarter our opinion of the city changed. It is every part as beautiful as it's reputation says. We spent a few hours strolling and had a feed, before returning to our hotel. Just a few hours in a city like Nice is almost criminal. But tomorrow we are up early and have another long day in the car. Not sure what we were thinking but it's all too exhausting at the moment.
