We pulled out of Langi Crossing to head back into Derby as we had booked our trip to the Horizontal Falls and were getting picked up at 2.15pm. We were told we could leave the bus at the King Sound Resort, in a locked secure area while we were on the trip and for no charge. It's amazing to get something for nothing these days.
So we were packed and ready to experience a trip of a lifetime.
We were picked up at 2.15pm and after picking up other excited travellers we were taken to the Derby airport to board the luxury 14 seat turbo prop jet seaplane for a direct flight to the Horizontal Waterfalls. We experienced a spectacular landing on the pristine waters of Talbot Bay. Our boat operator, Adrian, then explained to us that ten of us were extra's, so we were privileged to have our own houseboat and didn't have to share the two older houseboat with the 30 other guest. We were then transferred to the new custom built twin engine 600hp boat "Jet Stream" and taken over to our houseboat were we shown to our rooms and to get our drinks on ice and get changed into bather. There was only Lorelle and one other person that changed into bathers.
We all then had to hop back into Jet Stream. The seats in Jet stream are designed so you straddle the seat like a saddle. Adrian then took us for a ride through the river system then we went back across to the hotel (the two houseboats) were we could swim in the croc/shark proof cages but after Adrian started to feed the sharks, Lorelle opted not to go for a swim, neither did the other woman. The sharks were amazing to see so close up.
We then got back onto Jet Stream were we experienced first hand the incredible tidal power of this natural phenomenon. It was an absolute thrill and breathtaking going through the waterfalls.
After the ride through the waterfalls it was back to the houseboat to enjoy drinks, nibbles and great company while watching the sunset. Dinner was served - Barramundi and salad, all prepared by our host Lauren. We were in bed by 9.30pm after such a great afternoon.
Up at the crack of dawn, 6am showered and dressed, we headed up to the top deck were Lauren had prepared a full continental and cooked breakfast. After breakfast three of the guest had opted for the helicopter flights, so the helicopter flies over from the hotel and lands on the roof of our houseboat, it was an amazing site. After the others arrived back from their flight we board Jet Stream once again for yet another trip to the waterfalls. Adrian told us we could only go through the wider of the two as the fall of the thinner one was over 3 metres and it was too dangerous. To get the thrill of the waterfalls not once but twice was more than we both had excepted. Adrian had us back to the hotel by 7.30am, where we watched the four seaplane arriving. An extraordinary sight to behold watching the seaplanes landing. No sooner were the day trippers disembarking, we then got into the seaplanes.
Our pilot did two flyovers over the falls, which was a spectacular sight to behold. We then flew over the thousand islands Buccaneer Archipelago before landing back at Derby Airport. The flight back had no turbulence and was a great landing. We were again picked up and dropped off back to DABUS by 9.30am.
It certainly was a trip of a lifetime and a tick off the bucket list.
