After a relaxing weekend, we set off on Monday morning, still with rain and cold weather we headed off towards Margaret River. The drIve along coastal road via Dunsborough has so many wineries, it really was a lot to take in. Our destination was Evans & Tate winery, where we could stay for a couple of days for free, as we are CMCA members. After checking in and sampling their wines we set off for the afternoon. After studying the map and went to a couple more wineries, a nougat place, the Margaret River Chocolate Factory and a Distillery. Back at Evans & Tate we went back in and purchased a couple of bottles of wine, with our 10% of our purchase, again due to being CMCA members. There was only another couple of travellers in for the night, it was certainly a great spot to pull in for the night.
The next morning we stopped at the Margaret River Vension Farm to sample some products and we purchased a tasting plate of pate, salami and other products. We then went onto Margaret River, both of us thought it was a very yuppies town. After Margaret River we went to Prevelly to the mouth of the Margaret River, a very nice neat town. We travelled along the Caves Road, spending a night in the Boranup Karri Forest.
Up early the next morning and we went out to Hamelin Bay were the manta rays come right up to you. But none were sighted, so went for a nice walk along the beach and cliff tops. After our walk we arrived at the Jewel cave just in time for the 9.30 tour. The Jewel Cave is the largest show cave in Western Australia, with the Frozen Waterfall and Organ Pipes it was a very impressive cave.
Onto Augusta and down to the Cape Luuewin Lighthouse and the old Waterwheel. After seeing the sights of Augusta we drove up the Bussell Highway to Karridale where we turned east. It was a sad feeling, knowing that our journey was going to come to an end as we were heading east towards home.
We stopped the night camped up on the Blackwood River, south of Alexandra Bridge and tried our hand at fishing but caught none.
