We set off in morning and arrived at Pemberton, went to the visitors centre to get our bearings. Off we went first to the giant Gloucester Tree, which is 60metres high. You can climb it but we both opted not to. One woman, 65 years young, had had two knee reconstrutions and a hip replacement had climbed the tree in half and hour.
The Gloucester Tree was chosen for a fire lookout in 1947, one of a network of lookouts built in the karri forest between 1937 and 1952. We went for a walk to find some more beautiful wildflowers. We hopped onto the 2pm Pemberton Tram, which meander through towing Karri, Marri and Jarrah forest, over trestle bridges spanning rivers and streams along one of Australia's most majestic rail lines. The tram stopped at the Cascades were we could get out and have a look at the lovely Cascades.
We left Pemberton and found a free camp at the intersection go towards Manjimup were we had happy hour with other fellow travellers.
The next day we went out to the Diamond Tree and the King Jarrah Tree, both trees that you can climb, they are massive. Then onto One Tree Bridge, built out of one tree. We stopped and had a picnic lunch at Glenoran Pool before heading onto The Four Aces, four massive Karri Trees. We drove back via Deanmill, a timber mill town and the stopped at The Truffle & Wine Co where we decided to get a tasting platter and sample some of their wines. We learnt about the Truffles and the Truffle Dogs. At the end of the day, we found a gravel pit just on the outskirts of town, as we needed tv reception because Hawthorn and Adeilade were playing. We had a fire going and opened up the back doors to watch the telly.
Up the next morning and headed back into town as the Farmers Market was on. Stocked up on local fruit and veggies before heading off via Northcliff to the Mt Frankland South National Park. We stopped for the night at Fernhook Falls were we found a cabin near our campsite. The cabin was great, it had a fireplace in it. We lit a fire and enjoyed a lovely couple of hours out of the wind and cooked dinner and bread. No sooner had we finished dinner that two bike riders yelled out. They had been riding all day, so we handed over the lovely warm cabin and retreated back to DABUS to watch a movie.
