Heading south from Mungindi towards Burren Junction was drove through a lot of cotton country and came across the first paddock of canola.
Stopped for two days at Burren Junction Bore Baths where the temperature is about 34 degress. Last year we sat on the step that surrounds the baths, which have algea growing on them, which did feel very unpleasant. This year we took our noodles in and it was so much more comfortable, not having to sit on the algea.
Fathers Day arrived and a lazy, late morning was had with a big bunch. It was a very windy day with temperature to get to 31 degrees. By about 3pm the winds really picked up, to the point that chairs were disappearing heading for the otherside of the camp area, everything was thrown into DABUS and the rain came down…… for 3 minutes. The weather would calm down and then nearly every half an hour the wind would hurl through again. So no cooking on the fire tonight, inside with homemade chicken and veggie soup.
After a morning dip in the bore baths, we again headed further south to the Pilliga Bore Baths.
The cost of staying at the Pilliga Bore Baths was $5 per night, so after paying for our camp fee at the local store and obtaining our permit, we headed out to the bore baths. After a quick set up it was time for another dip. The water temperature is 38 degress, very pleasant. This bore bath is only a small rectangle pool. The following morning was went for our last dip and probably our last dip for this trip, as the weather is only going to get colder the further south we head.
Today we drove through Coonamble, stopped for fuel and to check out the solo art. As we headed further south, DABUS was covered by this massive shadow, a cloud. We were discussing that we hadn't seen this many clouds since we had left home. We stopped at Warren and had lunch, donned our jumpers, before doing a walk through the town centre. The main street of Warren had been planted with beautiful blossom trees, which were all out in bloom.
Our campsite for the night was a rest area south of Warren, very windy and cold but we did get outside to light a fire and cook dinner.
The next day we drove through beautiful countryside with paddocks of very vibrant yellow canola and green paddocks of wheat, through Condobolin.
We stopped the night at Lake Cargelligo, again windy and cold but as we were sitting in DABUS, a lovely elderly couple drove up and asked if we were having a fire. The reply was 'Yes' so they stopped and gave us some firewood. Sitting on the banks of Lake Cargelligo was fantastic, it is a town that is very RV friendly and we would love to return here in nicer weather, to fully enjoy what the town has to offer.
We spent the next day driving and trying to move further down south, stopping at Griffith for lunch, connected with the Newel Highway prior to Jerilderie. At this stage we had rain and decided to head to Barooga and set up camp for the night. It was a stunning night, by the Murray River.
Packed up the next morning, and crossed over into Victoria to Cobram to catch up on some shopping. Then headed off to Tocumwal to met up with Mark and Pearl for the last four days of our trip.
We had a great time up on the murray with Mark & Pearl. The weather was very kind to us, the last hoorah of the nice weather before we arrived back into Rye.
