Tuesday - we woke early and exchanged presents ( bought the day before!) and opened the Xmas card from mum and dad. Both of us were little uncertain about how this day would go - whether or not it would be too weird, to be away from family and friends - and it to be hot and sunny! It has not felt Christmassy at all yet! We drove into Queenstown and had churros and coffee by the lake, it was already high twenties with a Mediterranean sky. After a wander by the lake, we caught the cable car up to the Skyline restaurant for our Christmas buffet - we had booked this the day before. The buffet was incredible - huge prawns, oysters, salmon, scallops, green lipped mussels to start followed by a huge array of possible mains - but we opted for the traditional lunch. We had fantastic views over Queenstown and lake Wakatipu from our table. After lunch, we discovered that our tickets included two free luge rides down the mountain - I decided this was not for me, so Eric had great fun doing it twice!! By this point it was late afternoon and very hot so we decided to go for a lake cruise -a very enjoyable way to finish the day. It was a very different Xmas day - Queenstown was buzzing with activities, shops were obviously shut but people were swimming, sunbathing, barbecuing - generally outside having a good time, it was lovely to see. This evening we have been drinking local bubbly with our campervan neighbours from Surrey - a very memorable Xmas day.
