Wednesday - we left wellington on the 8.30am interisland ferry and left a foggy, damp wellington and headed for the South Island. The weather was very kind to us, windy but pretty calm all the way. About an hour from landing in Picton, the ferry meandered through many islands and peninsulas making for a spectacular journey - cross channel ferries will never have the same allure again! We landed at Picton, a picturesque small town in the Malborough sound, then wove our way over wooded mountains and along turquoise inlets until we reached the Tasman bay on the edge of the Abel Tasman national park. Here we parked up mid afternoon for a spot of fishing, paddling and chilling, then decided to stay the night here for the princely sum on £3 each! For tea we nipped to the local bar for turbot and chips - yum! Tomorrow we plan to visit a local vineyard on route to west coast. The views today have once again been amazing, the start of the day always contrasting with the scenery at the end of the day, just watching the sun go down over the bay from the van as we write this. . .
