Thursday- We left the campsite bright and early for another adventure. As we left the site we decided to find a local vineyard, so we ended up in a little village with a shop that sold everything, as well as having a coffee shop,so we did the right thing and stopped for a coffee, and a chat with the locals. Next door to this shop was a winery so Claire went for a tasting session, (lucky her) and I just watched as she tasted the various wines and decided on a bottle of their local Chardonnay . Moving on, we drove on further across the mountains, following the Buller river through dramatic gorges until we reached the west coast town of Westport. We then went to get some cash out, realising we only had 5 dollars in our pockets, only to find that the cashpoint (various) were refusing to give us money! Mild panic set in, until we realised we could still use our credit cards, but we still need to sort this out, with over two weeks to go! We are currently parked at a proper campsite (with loos and things!!), on the edge of the beach - fantastic sweeping sands and crashing waves - this side of the country is definitely wilder!! Now enjoying the sunset and a glass or two of Chardonnay. Just met a couple who recognised us from the campsite last night at Ruby creek! They are from Christchurch and lost their house in the recent earthquakes - shocking but interesting at the same time.
