Boxing Day- we got up feeling a little ropey, due celebrating Xmas night with a couple we met - unknown to us was also his birthday. After breakfast we headed for the shotover river, and decided to go on a jet boat. What an experience! It was fantastic, we were powered by twin Detroit Diesel engines, that had been turbo charged, 700 horse power and was capable of 50 knots - it flew!! The driver took us incredibly close to rocks, trees and the canyon walls at very high speeds, we also did about 10 - 360 degree spins, it was exhilarating and woke us up properly! After this we headed out of Queenstown down to Te Anau which is the gateway to Fjordland. The journey was marred a little by the gloomy weather - we can see now why Crowded House wrote the song Four seasons in one day! Te Anau is much smaller than Queenstown, though the lake is the largest in the South Island. When we got here we just did a bit shopping and relaxing after booking our cruise on the Milford Sound for the next day.
