Tuesday - up at the crack of dawn as usual and woke to grey skies, low cloud, misty rain and strong winds (bought some sea sickness tablets for Claire to take tomorrow!) We went up to the botanical gardens on the vernicular railway, but could not see a thing from the view point!! So we headed back down and went to Te Papa, the national museum of NZ - spent hours here, one of the best museums we have ever been to, covering the natural history, Maori history, European colonisation of the islands and recent immigration - fantastic! Now off to see the Hobbit in 3D, before heading out for some food and a beer later. Tomorrow morning we leave the north island and head to Picton on the ferry - hoping the crossing is ok, this stretch of water does have a certain reputation !!
PS hope the air Ambulance had a lovely Xmas lunch x

The Welch family Sounds like a wonderful adventure so far - Peter expects a full illustrated bird and wildlife report when you get back :) Bethan and Carrie are very excited about you taking them on the same tour next year.
cranderson Vicki said something very similar!! Lots of very exciting wildlife here - still not seen a kiwi yet though. Hoping to see fur seals this week . . Xx
