We were both awake from 5.30 am - no idea why! So we took advantage of being up and went to the floating market in Taling Chang an exoerience not to be missed - we were the only westerners there. A lot nicer and cheaper than getting your shopping done at Asda anyway.
After this, we headed over to the grand palace and Wat Phra Kaew. It was absolutley boiling inside the walls so we couldn't stay too long. We did want to enter the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, however the Kings sister had just passed away the other week and the Thai's were still in mourning, praying and chanting in the temple so we were unable to go in...it's amazing how much respect and admiration the Thai people have for their king - there are pictures of him and banners saying 'Long live the King' everywhere. Just like our country really - I mean we all know that she owns all the swans!
After 3 days in Bangkok we are ready to leave. Its an interesting city with lots of history to see, but the car and bike fumes and the constant mithering from touts is getting a bit much! We will no doubt be coming back here anyway so need a break for now.
We are therefore planning on going to the island of Koh Chang tomorrow for some relaxing days in the sun - we did want to go Chiang Mai in the North but left it to late to book a train ticket so we will proabably go there later on.
