I was at Mum's the other day and decided to take photos of her treasures.
Because, my memory being what it is ...
I need the photos ...
And this blog.
The Ruby Collection.
The tall vase was given to Mum by Auntie Vera Ellery.
Nana Street's sister in law, when Mum visited her in Geelong.
Auntie Vera was married to Uncle Sel who MC'd at Mum and Dad's Wedding, and did a marvellous job. He had a great sense of humour.
They had 2 boys but Jack died of TB in his 20's.
The salt cellar was given to Mum by Grandma Hearse, Nana Munday's Mum.
She and Grandpa Hearse came to live with Nana and Pa, Trevor, Mum and George during the War.
Grandma Hearse would take Mum to see "Gone With The Wind" and every time Clark Gable would come on screen, Mum would squeeze Grandma Hearse's arm so hard that it hurt!
( It was released in Australia in May, 1940.)
Mum was very, very young.
Born 5th December, 1929.
( Though there is some confusion as her birth certificate says 6/12/1929.)
We are just thinking that Pa was having too good a time "wetting the baby's head" that he got the dates confused when he registered her birth.
Now to the Engagement Presents...
Nana and Pa Street, Dad's parents, gave them the coffee table for their Engagement.
Nana and Pa Munday, Mum's parents, gave them the Crystal Cabinet.
All these were purchased from Smith's Furnishings, where Mum worked.
( Though I am not sure that "worked" is quite the right word. She has told us so many times of the fun the staff had playing cricket in the aisle of the shop when there were no customers about. And presumably, no bosses either!)
The Standard Lamp was a present from Smith's Furnishings for their Engagement.
