Wolin was only 8 NM as a white headed Eagle flys from our anchorage but as these Lakes and rivers are so shallow we sailed 19NM by the time we arrived. A deep keel yacht would not be able to get here as we saw depths of 1.7 m we are 1.5 m so no problems. We saw a number of Eagles on route, the scariest thing was, we saw land sticking up out of the water when the charts said there should be 2.7 m of depth, so we stopped cutting the corners. Wolin is a large island as well as a town, we are 12/15 NM from the sea but due to Bridges we can’t go all the way round, so it will be back the same way for us in a couple of days time. This will probably be the farthest East for us this year so I suppose we are on our way home already. There are only a handful of yachts here probably because of the long shallow route in, certainly not because of the cost, a nights mooring for less than £5.00 compare that to the only time we went into Poole marina 8 years ago, it was over £40.00 then. We stopped for 2 nights as a few jobs required doing, clothing needed to washed and I wanted to check out the top of the mast as our wind instruments have not been working. I’ve not been up the mast very often and I don’t look forward to it. The mast is 15/16 meters plus 2 meters of boat so being suspended almost 60 feet above the boat on a bit of rope wobbling about is a bit daunting. Anyway up I went and no problems with the wiring were found. We also watched England’s opening match with beer at £1.00 a pint.
