Borstö ( snake Island ) even before we had gone ashore we had been warned about the islands snake population and had seen 2 swimming near to the yachts. Apparently there are grass snakes and Vipers, the vipers are actually adders, the largest one was about 3 feet long, so with tales of air lifts to hospital in helicopters if bitten we set of to walk round the island in our leather sea boots. We saw 4 in total with the big one living under the end of the jetty. So the walk ashore was always a worry especially if we couldn't see it, sometimes it's tail was sticking out. We both decided to use our own toilet on board as the islands composting loos were very close to the snakes lair. The island has a few old houses on it and is still like a small fishing island. There is an old wooden figurehead from a wrecked sailing ship on the top of the highest hill. We walked to the Cliff tops to watch the sun set, we set off at 21.30, it was 22.30 before the sun dipped into the sea. This was probably our warmest day in Finland, Forecast 16 degrees but in the sun it felt much more.
