Another late start- we must be in holiday mode! Having been wandering Zurich for a couple of days now we decided to get out of the city to see the town of Schaffhausen & the nearby Rhein Falls. Our train there wasn't until 12.40 but being on a regional express it only took 40mins. Once again the streets were cobblestone & the buildings made you feel like you were walking through a medieval town. Most of the old town was dedicated to pedestrians & the small winding streets opened up into well kept squares with statues & fountains. We walked up a narrow set of stairs (probably a couple of hundred) to a big castle/mouted building which looked out over the town & the river. Once again you could just imagine a flurry of medieval armoured soldiers running up the winding tower ready to defend from the gun windows. As we were short on time we had to quickly head back through town to the station to get a bus to the falls. We grabbed some lunch from the supermarket to take with us & once at the falls we found a shaded seat to eat whilst overlooking the thunderous falls & the river spotted with boats taking tourists out to a small rock which the falls cascaded either side of. With no time left we had to forgo the boat trip & settle for having seen the falls & town before heading back to Zurich to meet Ian in the old town at Edi's wine bar. The afternoon & evening was spent here enjoying Amboss amber & then a couple of jugs of White wine sangria. They didn't serve food so I made a kebab run to feed the troops & after so much socialising over the last few days were back at the hotel just as it got dark- which wasn't until 10pm here!
