After a bit of a sleep in & lazy morning we had a few hours to explore a bit of Zurich & get a present for Kiri & Rene's wedding. Once again catching the very convenient trams we got to Paradeplatz & walked along the famous shopping street of Bahnhofstrasse to find a department store to get a gift card & also look at watches. We then continued to the station area before crossing the river & exploring the festival area with endless beer stands, wurst sausage stands & cocktail bars set up along both sides of the river between stages for bands & dj's. It was pretty warm out at about 27 degrees & sunny!! After checking out the Grossemunster (church) & completing our circuit of the festival we headed back to the hotel to get changed for the wedding. Tramming to the wedding via town we once again ran into Ian's cousins when we changed trams to head out towards the hotel where the wedding was, as well as some of Kiri's school friends. At the end of the tram line it was a short walk uphill to the grand looking hotel which overlooked Zurich & the lake. It was an absolutely spectacular view! The ceremony was on a second floor terrace with no shade so we waited inside until the bride arrived (by tram as well) & then scorched in the sun whilst watching the lovely low key ceremony. Lucky it was short & simple. After the ceremony we were ushered down to the shaded deck area, still with amazing views, for drinks & nibbles for a few hours. It was very relaxed & the white wine with lime & mint in it was delicious. The reception started about 6.30 in a wood panelled room on the first floor, with obligatory views of course! After a few hours of snacking on canapés we now had a 3 course meal to enjoy. First was a goats cheese strudel, then steak fillet in port wine sauce & veges and later there was a dessert buffet from which I had a cupcake, cheesecake mousse & chocolate mousse- yum!!! Sean & I were sat at the Melbourne table with school friends of Kiri's but after the main we moved to socialise with Ian, the cousins & some other friends of his. At the wedding they also had a photo booth where you could use the props to take some silly pictures- which of course we did- & at 10.30 we could watch the fireworks from the festival from the balcony. When friends of Ian's (Ken & Anne) left at about 12.30 we decided we would set off with them & luckily the trams were still running so we got back to the hotel easily, with just a hold up around centrum with a backlog of trams ferrying the swarms of people from the festival. Bed was a welcome sight when we fell into it about 2am.
